If
you’re currently considering a job in the construction industry, New York City
is the place to be! Throughout the five boroughs, construction job rates
continue to reach new heights. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released a 2019 report
that found New York City accounted for half of the construction jobs added in
the State between 2010 and 2018.

If
you’re still not convinced to grab a hard hat and hit the work site, check out these
additional findings from the comptroller’s report:

  • New
    York City’s total construction employment was just shy of 158,000 workers last
    year – topping a record of 150,000 workers reached just a year earlier.
  • Between
    2010 and 2018, the construction industry added 45,300 jobs, an increase of 40
    percent.
  • Based
    on the latest data from 2017, construction was the fourth highest-paying
    employment sector in New York City.
  • Immigrants
    held 59 percent of overall construction jobs in New York City, while the
    nation’s average for immigrant-held construction jobs is just 20 percent. The
    city’s construction industry had the highest share of foreign-born workers of
    any sector in the city.
  • Almost
    60 percent of construction workers in New York had no college experience,
    higher than any other employment sector. Non-college educated workers had an
    average salary of $43,300, based on the latest data from 2017.
