May 1, 2019 – Building Skills New York, a non-profit organization working to provide underserved New Yorkers with good paying jobs, announced today its first ever Queens Worker of the Month, Kendy Baptiste.
Baptiste, before he was trained and placed by Building Skills NY, was looking for a stable job after working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. BSNY helped him get a construction job with JM3 on an Arker Company project. The Arker Company is a commercial real estate development which has created over 4000 housing units and nearly 1 million square feet of commercial office space.
“Before I found Building Skills, I didn’t know if the construction industry could give me a steady job,” said Baptiste. “I started as a carpenter’s helper and now I’m working on advanced carpentry on my own – helping to build the future of this city with my own hands. I’m thrilled to be honored for a job that I couldn’t be happier to do.”
Building Skills New York filled 235 job placements, including a growing share of workers from Queens.
BSNY’s “Worker of the Month” monthly series aims to highlight and honor workers placed in jobs throughout New York City.
