BROOKLYN, NY September 26, 2019 – Building Skills New York, a non-profit organization working to provide underserved New Yorkers with good paying jobs, announced today that Travain Hillaire has been named the September Brooklyn Worker of the Month.
Hillaire works as an electrician for Top Shelf Electric, an electrical and telecommunications contracting firm.
“Building Skills connected me with a job when I needed it the most,” said Hillaire. “Finding steady employment in construction has allowed me to start building a long-lasting career. I am thankful for Building Skills for helping me get here.”
Last year Building Skills NY filled 235 NYC construction related jobs, with Brooklyn residents making up more than a quarter of workers. Recently, Building Skills announced that they will be holding a series of free training sessions to help workers reach Local Law 196 construction requirements. Local Law 196 requires all New York City construction workers to have at least 30 hours of Site Safety Training completed by December 1, 2019.
Building Skills helps New Yorkers find work through free job training and job placement services. Additionally, Building Skills continues to provide on-the-job support to each worker as they seek to broaden their skillset and advance their construction career.
BSNY’s “Worker of the Month” monthly series aims to highlight and honor workers placed in jobs throughout New York City.
