5 Ways to Sharpen On Site Time Management Skills

Efficiency is the key to success in the construction industry. Completing a job quickly and without error earns construction workers a top-notch reputation. Stay on top of your game with these on-site time management tips:

Set Your Goals

Before beginning a project, think about your short-term and long-term goals. Develop a realistic end goal that will help breakdown your day-to-day goals into manageable tasks. Prioritize time-sensitive tasks as they come up.

Touch Base with Your Contractor

Frequently communicate with your contractor to avoid wasting time. They can help talk through your day-to-day goals and gauge whether or not you’re on the right track. If you have a question on site, ask it – don’t waste too much time trying to figure out the answer.

Wear a Watch

The simplest way to prevent yourself from losing track of time is to wear a watch. Glance at your watch as you begin a project to get a sense of how long you spend doing it. Stopwatch features can also be helpful to keep exact time.

Give Yourself a Performance Review

As you start work each day, check back in to make sure your goals are on track. Are you spending too much or too little time on tasks? Adjust your goals to fit your progress – and make note of where you can do better.

Stay Flexible

No plan goes 100% smoothly without some modifications. Depending on the job, you may need to allot more or less time to complete a task. Always be flexible and ready to adapt your schedule to unexpected changes.
